The “José Baganha & Arquitectos Associados, Lda.” company was founded on 4 June 2001. Its premises are located in the heart in Cascais, at Rua Vigia, 301.

The company’s core business is the provision of architectural and urban design services, including the preservation, restoration and renovation fields. Some of the most noteworthy of the numerous projects that the company has implemented in this area for prestigious clients are detailed in the company portfolio, in particular those in the private (companies and private individuals) and cooperative sectors.

The company’s work is characterised by its contemporary style, using tradition and history as its inspiration, in addition to the integration of the most exacting requirements in architectural design and construction quality.

The company considers each project to be unique and the project design process includes particular focus on aspects such as the project’s spatial context and integration and local culture. In addition, economic factors are highly regarded – not only those relating to the works themselves but also their maintenance and longevity, as the company seeks to valorise the sustainability of the planned solutions, for the works and for the surrounding environment.

The work developed by JB&AA has been honored by several institutions, highlighting the European award for the reconstruction of the city in 2011, awarded by the Foundation Philippe Rotthier “Pour l’Architecture” in Brussels.

The “José Baganha & Arquitectos Associados, Lda.” is managed by its majority shareholder – the architect José Franqueira Baganha. He was born in Coimbra in 1960 and graduated from Universidade Técnica de Lisboa [Lisbon Technical University] in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree with honours in Architecture. He is a professor in the Faculty of Architecture of the Viseu campus of Universidade Católica Portuguesa [Portuguese Catholic University] by 2012 and is doctorate from the University of the Basque Country – Department of Architecture, in San Sebastián.

José Baganha, Arquitectos is a member of the C.E.U. – Council for European Urbanism and I.N.T.B.A.U – International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism and, in this context, the company has been appointed to the prestigious I.C.T.P. – I.N.T.B.A.U. College of Traditional Practitioners, which has H.R.H. The Prince of Wales as its patron.

In addition to these institutions, José Baganha, Arquitectos and its staff are actively involved with a number of different national and international institutions, such as the “Fondation pour L’Architecture”, in Belgium, the American “C.N.U. – Congress for New Urbanism”, the “Vision of Europe” Association and numerous universities and institutes, such as the Prince’s Foundation, in the UK, and the Universities of Bologna, Ferrara and Naples and Bari Polytechnic, in Italy.
