The house of “Médico de São Rafael” is located in Sines, overlooking the cliff facing the Atlantic Ocean. It was designed for an assisted living unit for retired doctors, with 20 rooms and several social, support, and equipment compartments, including a basement for car parking. Lately, it has been used as a hotel unit. The set consists of two blocks joined by a bridge passage. The block facing West was rebuilt in the image of the pre-existing one and its interior was reformulated. In the other block, it was considered a language typology inspired by traditional architecture models present in this location. This building has been awarded the prestigious “Pour l’Architecture”/2011 award from the Philippe Rotthier Foundation, Brussels.
